Earlier this week on 2-24, Kyrie Irving posted up on Instagram that Kobe Bryant should be the new NBA logo.
Many fans on social media decided to mock up some Kobe Bryant logos just in case the league decides to go that direction. Irving yesterday was asked postgame about his comments on social media:
"As a native Black man and a native Black king, I think it's part of my responsibility to push our culture forward. ...My thing is paying homage to the example that has been set by that man," Irving told reporters.
Kyrie Irving continues to push to make Kobe the logo. An online petition to change the logo to Bryant has more than 3 million signatures. What initially seemed like a unrealistic idea in the aftermath of Kobe's death looks to be brought back to the center of attention.
The current logo is modeled after NBA legend Jerry West, who has stated that he wishes he wasn't the inspiration for the symbol and that he hoped it would change in the future.
