Report: Lakers Hired Jason Kidd To Attract Giannis Antetokounmpo To L.A.

Milwaukee Bucks v New York Knicks

Lakers could already be thinking ahead to the free agency period of 2021.

According to a report by Steve Popper of NewsDay, one of the reasons why the Lakers brought in Jason Kidd to be alongside Frank Vogel is so that he can be a big part in recruiting Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo once he is a free agent in two years.

“It is just speculation right now, but one person asked me if I knew why Kidd was there and as I guessed at his relationship with LeBron James or his ability to tutor Lonzo Ball, the person familiar with the Lakers process said something else: that Kidd was brought to Los Angeles to attract Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Lakers when he becomes a free agent in two years when the Bucks star could become an unrestricted free agent.”

Antetokounmpo as of right now is the favorite to win NBA MVP and is currently leading the Bucks to a dominant start in the Eastern Conference Finals. One thing to point out is that Giannis will only be 26 years old by the time he hits free agency.
