On Saturday, May 6, hundreds of talented dancers will vie for a coveted spot on the world-renowned Charger Girls, one of professional sports’ most talented and respected cheer and dance teams. The FREE open-call audition will be held at Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA. Registration and check-in begin at 10 a.m. followed by the preliminary dance audition at 11 a.m.
“We are looking for dancers who combine star-quality talent with crowd appeal, showmanship, and energy,” Charger Girls Director Lisa Simmons said. “Professionalism and character are equally important, and all Charger Girls are expected to embody the same level of excellence our organization demands on and off the field.
Applications are available only online at LACHARGERGIRLS. Applicants must be 18 or older by May 6, 2017. Dancers are encouraged to send a 5x7 (or larger) head shot and/or full-body shot with their application. Walk-ups will be accepted at the door.
From the hundreds of dancers expected at the audition, at least 60 finalists will be selected. Each finalist will go through a one-on-one interview May 8-9 and a comprehensive panel interview on May 10. The final dance audition is scheduled to begin on May 11. The L.A. Charger Girls will be announced on Chargers.com on May 12.
The L.A. Charger Girls will perform at all home games at StubHub Center; appear in the team’s annual swimsuit calendar and serve as ambassadors for the organization at business, community and charity events. The Make-a-Wish Foundation, Wounded Warriors, American Diabetes Association and D.A.R.E. are among the many non-profit organizations which have benefited from the Charger Girls’ support.
To prepare dancers for the week-long audition process, the team is offering two additional workshops leading up to the preliminary audition. The workshops cost $40 each and will take place on the following dates:
- April 22 @ Dance Dynamics, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 22576 Avenida Empresa, Rancho Santa Margarita
- April 25 @ USC Galen Center, 6:30-9:30 p.m., 3400 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles
The Charger Girls were formed in 1990 and are recognized as one of the premier dance teams in the National Football League. They have performed at the Super Bowl and internationally in Berlin, Germany; Tokyo, Japan; and Sydney, Australia.
