Could a Raiders-Derek Carr extension be coming?
According to Adam Caplan, the Raiders do not want to move on from Derek Carr and the belief around the league is they will likely sign him to a contract extension.
Carr still has two years left on the deal he signed in 2017 and carries a cap number of $22.125 million in 2021 and $19.877 million in 2022. A new deal would give the Raiders much-needed cap relief for at least the 2021 season. The Raiders might lose some long-term flexibility by extending Carr, but given the way he has improved under Gruden, it’s not hard to see why the team would be glad to assume the risk.
Only time will tell if the Raiders will want to lock Carr long-term.
