Pau Gasol Is Eyeing A Return To Basketball With Lakers As A Destination

Could a fan favorite be returning to the city where he helped deliver two championships?

Pau Gasol spoke with Zach Lowe and is working toward what he hopes will be an NBA comeback and a spot on Spain's Olympic team in Tokyo, the six-time All-Star and two-time NBA champion told ESPN on Wednesday. Gasol, 40 talked about his dream destination and mentioned the Lakers as being one.

"There is meaning and history there," said Gasol, who won titles with the Lakers alongside Kobe Bryant in 2009 and 2010. "I'm not going to lie. It would be very special, and now that my brother [Marc] is there, even more special. But I'm not in a position now to be very demanding. I don't have 10 offers on the table."

Marc Gasol signed a two-year, $5.25 million deal with the Lakers last month. Pau Gasol has not appeared in a game since March 2019 and has undergone two surgeries since then to repair stress fractures in the navicular bone in his left foot, he told ESPN. Doctors first discovered the stress reaction in the fall of 2018, when Gasol was beginning his third season with theSan Antonio Spurs, he said.
