Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard told reporters on a conference call that Melissa Rios (the mother of his six-year-old son) died during the coronavirus pandemic nearly six weeks ago.
Everyone's thoughts and thoughts and prayers go out to Dwight Howard and his family. This has certainly been a tough time for everyone around the world. The Lakers big man and his family surely have the support of the NBA community. The 2019-20 NBA season was suspended on March 11 after Utah Jazz All-Star center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19. It is unclear if the 2019-20 season will be resumed. Howard appeared in 62 games for the Lakers before the season was put to a halt. He was averaging 7.5 points and 7.4 rebounds off the bench while shooting 73.2 percent from the field.
Howard, who has five children, said he's been focused on providing support for his son, per Lakers reporterMike Trudell.
