Klay Thompson Could Consider The Clippers If Warriors Don't Offer The Max

This summer in the NBA has the potential to be one of the best free agency periods in the history of the league with guys like Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, and Kyrie Irving set to hit the open market.

One player that could has the chance of moving teams is Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, if the Warriors do not offer Klay Thompson the max, look for him to come to Los Angeles.

“If they come with a five-year, $190 million max deal for Klay Thompson, that’s done on July 1 he’s going into the new building with Steph Curry,” Wojnarowski said as a guest of ESPN Get Up!. “If they try to do anything less than that, you can expect Klay Thompson to be out in free agency. Watch not for the Lakers then, but the Clippers.”

Many people figured that Klay Thompson would prefer the Lakers due to the his dad Mychal Thompson's connection with the Lakers organization as a former player and a radio broadcaster for the team. Thompson spoke with Kyle Goon of the OC Register and discussed the questions he has been getting about his son's future.

“He’ll be happy here, he loves the good weather,” Mychal said. “I always tell him when he’s retired, he’ll have another 40 years to spend here. He’s in no rush to get back.”

It will be interesting to see if the Warriors will offer Klay the max and lock him up before free agency starts at the beginning of July.
