Yasmani Grandal came in to free agency as the best catcher on the open market, but he remains without a job nearly two months after the offseason began. Grandal declined the Dodgers $17.9 million qualifying offer to go test the market to see if he can get a bigger deal. It Part of that seems to be Grandal’s own doing,
According to Jorge Castillo from the Los Angeles Times, the longtime Dodger reportedly declined a proposal from the Mets which would have paid him $60 million over four years. The Mets opted to sign Wilson Ramos on a cheaper deal which was ultimately a two year $19 million deal.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were interested in signing Grandal but the likelihood of that dropped after they signed Johnathan Lucroy to a deal this past week. Mets, Nationals, Rangers, Twins, Red Sox, Astros, Phillies, Braves and Rockies were all teams interested in signing the free agent.
