Why Ben Roethlisberger Has Already Played His Final Down in the NFL

Why Ben Roethlisberger Has Already Played His Final Down in the NFL
Jason Smith: “About a month ago I remember saying ‘The Steelers need to NUDGE Ben Roethlisberger out the door.’ You can clearly see that he’s at the END. He can’t throw the ball anymore, and they can’t throw the football more than five yards without risking an interception because Roethlisberger has to put too much air under it to get it down the field. Roethlisberger just can’t get it done anymore. Whether it’ll be another year past his elbow surgery and he will be stronger, the Steelers can’t take that chance… They are ‘Air Force One – GET OFF MY PLANE’-ing Ben Roethlisberger out the door… They’re going to go out and get a quarterback this offseason because there are so many available… The Steelers aren’t going to give away a season waving goodbye to Ben Roethlisberger… Is he really going to risk his legacy knowing he could be replaced at some point, and it’s not going to be the ending that he wanted? For the first time, now I think we may have seen Roethlisberger play his final down in the NFL… I can see Roethlisberger letting a little time pass and saying ‘After a reflection on my life and career, I am retiring from the National Football League. It’s been a great ride, and I go with no regrets.’ That is probably more likely than him trying to come back after all of this stuff has been thrown out there. To risk that legacy? Man, I don’t know if you can do it.” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Jason Smith explain why he thinks Ben Roethlisberger may have already played his final down in in the NFL, as Jason thinks the 38-year-old who turns 39 in a couple of weeks, won’t want to risk coming back for a ‘swan song’ that could turn into a humiliating benched season similar to Eli Manning’s final year in 2019 when Daniel Jones effectively sent Eli to the grave two games in.

Check out the audio above as Jason details why he thinks 2021 would be too tragic for Ben to return for.
