The City of Angels has once again been crowned the City of Champions.
The Sports Business Journal has announced that Los Angeles has been chosen for the best sports city for 2020. The Dodgers World Series victory over the Tampa Bay Rays marks the first time since 1988 that they and the Lakers have won a championship in the same year.
The last time the Lakers won a championship in the same year as the Dodgers was when Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar beat Isiah Thomas, Adrian Dantley and the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals. Two months later, Tommy Lasorda’s Dodgers beat the Oakland A's in five games.
Los Angeles is among the 10 cities to have won multiple titles in a year, which includes teams from seven major leagues NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, WNBA, NWSL. Los Angeles has six years in which two of their teams have lifted titles, tied for the most with New York, which also boasts of six double championship years.
