The Houston Astros of being swept out of the American League Championship Series by the Tampa Bay Rays. But the first dig against them Wednesday came in the halls of a United States Senate hearing room not from the Tampa Bay Rays.
Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Nebraska, used his five minutes of questioning during Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing to draw a line between the Astros' sign-stealing scandal to the meaning behind the questions Democratic senators posed.
Sasse began by shifting the conversation to the Houston Astros:
"I'd like to talk about the Houston Astros, who are miserable cheaters," Sasse said as he acknowledged his colleague John Cornyn, who represents Texas. " ... I think all baseball fans know that the Astros cheat. They steal signs. They bang on cans. They've done a whole bunch of miserable things, historically."
