Astros Teammates Expect Gerrit Cole To Sign With A California Team

The Astros are focused on the 2019 World Series against the Washington Nationals, but one star player's future with the team beyond October is in question. Gerrit Cole is expected to be the most sought after player in free agency this winter, and some have projected the Cy Young candidate to be handed a record deal.

With free agency rapidly approaching, some of his teammates anticipate the 29-year-old will move back to his home state of California, while others within baseball think he's most likely to join the Angels according to Buster Olney.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale also spoke to a couple of Cole's fellow Astros, and they told him they think Cole will end up playing in California. The South Side, at least in the Astros' clubhouse. Here is what Josh Reddick had to say:

"It will be west of Nevada. "We know he wants to be a West Coast guy. He’s a California guy, so he probably wants to be close to home. I know he mentioned Oakland a couple of times because of how he’s pitched there in the past, but that probably won’t happen. They’d have to clear the whole roster to afford him."
