According to Bleacher Report's Ric Bucher he states that a team source says Lakers owner Jeanie Buss thought of trading LeBron James due to the mishandling of the trade talks with Anthony Davis. The main reason was of how public the trade went the minute that Anthony Davis requested a trade.
The idea of terminating the franchise’s relationship with Paul by moving James at least crossed Buss’ mind, the team source said, and Paul was made aware of that. That prompted Paul to reach out to Buss to clear the air, and whatever ill will existed supposedly dissipated. At the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference a few weeks later, Buss blamed the media for making the rumors public.
This names came out than a week after Jeff Van Gundy said that the Lakers should very sure consider trading LeBron James. The source told Bucher though that the idea was on Buss' mind weeks before Van Gundy said the team should explore the move while broadcasting a Celtics-Lakers game.
The Lakers are planning on exploring a trade for LeBron James once again this upcoming summer.
