High School Wrestler Forfeits Match Rather Than Face A Girl

A wrestler by the named of Brendan Johnston had the chance to place in third if he wrestled a girl by the name of Angel Rios. Instead, he opted to forfeit the match and put another loss on his record.

Johnston talked to the Denver Post about the reasoning behind backing out out of that third place match:

“I’m not really comfortable with a couple of things with wrestling a girl. “The physical contact, there’s a lot of it in wrestling.”
And I guess the physical aggression, too. I don't want to treat a young lady like that on the mat or off the mat. And not to disrespect the heart or the effort that she's put in. That's not what I wanted to do either."

His record in his senior year at The Classical Academy charter school from Colorado Springs is 37-6, with 5 of his 6 losses being forfeits and four were against Rios.

Rios wound up finishing in fifth after it was all said and done.
