Dodgers Announce They Will Honor Don Newcombe With A No. "36" Patch

The Dodgers have announced today how they will honor the late Don Newcombe.

Each player will wear a commemorative uniform number "36" patch this year. The Dodgers will also Don Newcombe in pregame ceremonies on April 27, when they induct him into the Legends of Dodger Baseball and salute him with a commemorative bobblehead.

Newcombe pitched 10 years in the big leagues, including eight with the Dodgers. He debuted in 1949, going 17-8 with a 3.17 ERA. He was named an All-Star, and took home Rookie of the Year honors.

While Newcombe had great accomplishments, he was gratified as well to have played a role in the civil rights struggle by helping to shatter modern baseball’s racial barrier after the arrival of the Dodgers’ Jackie Robinson and catcher Roy Campanella.
