Jon Heyman sent Dodgers fans into a frenzy Monday morning, reporting that the Boys in Blue 'appear to be the leading contender' to land Orioles star Manny Machado.
The Brewers, Phillies and Diamondbacks are also reportedly in contention.
The news comes following a day of reports on Monday that appeared to show the Phillies pulling ahead in the Manny Machado sweepstakes. It appears, however, that the Orioles might be intrigued by Dodgers prospect Yusniel Diaz — who hit two home runs in this week's Futures Game.
The situation remains fluid, and the Brewers, Phillies and Diamondbacks could still become involved in the late stages of the race to acquire the perennial American League All-Star, who previously played at third base. The Diamondbacks in particular are still "active," and could be running second in the unfolding derby. But for now the Dodgers have emerged as a clear leader and could be close to acquiring the infielder for the remainder of the 2018 season.
Breaking; The Dodgers appear to be the leading contender for superstar Manny Machado as talks head toward the finish line. The situation is fluid and brewers and phillies may still have an outside chance. Barring turnabout, deal should be done this week. Story comin on @Fancred— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) July 17, 2018
