Stadium delay sends 2021 Super Bowl from LA to Tampa Bay

As was initially speculated when news broke last week regarding the delayed opening of Inglewood's NFL stadium, the future home of the Rams and Chargers will not host the Super Bowl in 2021.

NFL owners voted unanimously on Tuesday to move the Feb. 2021 game to Tampa Bay. Los Angeles will now host the Super Bowl in 2022.

Due to the stadium opening being delayed from 2019 to 2020 as a result of historic rainfall, a waiver would have been necessary to forego NFL rules requiring a venue to be open for two years before hosting a Super Bowl.

Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times reports that Tampa Bay and Los Angeles each must prove by Aug. 25 that they are on track to host the events.
