D'Angelo Russell's brief tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers has been a mixed bag, filled with moments of incredible promise that are balanced out by a penchant for inconsistency.

On Sunday, the second-year guard delivered the greatest performance to date of his young career.

Russell finished the night with a career-high 40 points in a 125-120 loss to the Cavaliers, becoming the youngest player in Lakers history to hit the 40-point mark. He also recorded six assists and hit seven threes, while committing just one turnover.

Fred Roggin and Rodney Peete discussed Russell's breakout performance on Monday during "Lunchtime" with Roggin and Rodney.

This is a defining moment for Russelll -- either he finally realizes his potential and lives up to his billing as a No. 2 overall draft pick, or he falls back into inconsistency that will doom his chances as a franchise cornerstone.
