The Chargers' decision last week to uproot the team from San Diego to Los Angeles has brought about considerable excitement in the L.A. sports scene. The move has also been a source of despair, however, for fans living in San Diego — the team's home since 1961.
Legendary Chargers running back LaDanian Tomlinson is one of the most iconic faces in the franchise's history. This week, the 2017 Hall of Fame finalist provided words of hope to fans in San Diego that have had their hearts ripped out by the relocation.
Per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
“You still have the opportunity to support your team. You know, they’re only an hour-and-a-half up the coast,” Tomlinson said. “And so you know, there’s a silver lining, if you will, in this. Knowing that at least you still can support them, and they didn’t, you know, move to another state.”
According to the Chargers' website, Tomlinson set or tied 28 team records throughout an illustrious nine-year stretch in San Diego. In 2006, Tomlinson cemented his place in the NFL history with a single-season record 28 rushing touchdowns.
