Lakers, Carmelo Anthony Pause Contract Talks

Carmelo Anthony is currently waiting for a new team to play for, and it doesn’t appear that team will be the Lakers.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the team and Anthony don’t think it makes sense to add a veteran like him if it wasn’t in the playoff race. The two sides have paused talks for the moment.

The Los Angeles Lakers and free agent Carmelo Anthony are pausing talks on a possible contract agreement unless the franchise makes a turn back toward pursuit of Western Conference playoffs contention, league sources told ESPN.

The Lakers, have lost four of their last five games to fall three games under .500 and trail Spurs by 4.5 games for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. With just 19 games to go for LeBron James & co, they will have to play their best basketball of the season in order to get in the playoffs.

Lakers take on the Clippers tonight at Staples Center in a game that has huge playoff implications.
