Marlins Wanted Two Of The Dodgers Prospects In A Trade For Realmuto

Yesterday, the Philadelphia Phillies acquired catcher J.T. Realmuto for catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitching prospects Sixto Sanchez and Will Stewart, and an international bonus slot .

Ever since Yasmani Grandal declined his qualifying offer, the Dodgers were shopping around for a catcher and they were very interested in acquiring J.T. Realmuto. But it looks like the Marlins asking price was too high for the Dodgers.

According to Jon Heyman, the Marlins wanted to acquired two of the Dodgers prized prospects if they wanted Realmuto to be a Dodger.

Most others in on Realmuto were willing to surrender 1 big piece but not a 2nd big piece. Marlins sought 2 of May, Lux, Ruiz and Smith from LA (after it was clear Bellinger was going nowhere).

Ruiz is rated the No. 3 overall catching prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, and the top Dodgers prospect in the organization.

The Dodgers will go into the season with Austin Barnes and Russell Martin who they acquired back in January.
