Before he was linebacker with the Los Angeles Chargers, Joshua Perry was a standout at the University of Ohio State.
Perry was a three-year starter with the Buckeyes, and ranks 16th in school history with 298 career tackles. He was also an integral part of the 2015 team that brought a national championship to Columbus.
Because of this history, Perry has quite the following in Ohio despite playing on the other side of the country. For one fan from Shelby, Ohio, the former Buckeye delivered the surprise of a lifetime this week.
Perry engaged in a Twitter challenge with Michael Adkins, a freshman at Shelby High School, after being asked for a pair of game-worn gloves. The second-year pro gave Adkins a week to receive 1,000 retweets for his request. It took Adkins just two days, and Perry followed through on his promise — and then some.
Upon realizing that Shelby was in close proximity to Columbus, where Perry is training this offseason, he decided to make good on the challenge in person.
Perry invited Brian Skowronski of WMFD along to capture the encounter. You can watch the heartwarming video in its entirety above.
